Lots of good stuff happening

We have had alot of good things happening in Mrs. Powell's room. Thank you to the Grandparents that came to eat with my students. We have started Science Experiment Fridays. We did our first experiment using milk, food coloring and dish detergent. Enjoy the pics!!

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school yeat!

Welcome to the Home of the Buzy Bees! I am so excited that a new year is about to begin! Our classroom blog will be used throughout the year. Please add it to your favorites. This blog will be used and updated daily and weekly. It will be your look into our classroom. I will be posting spelling words, homework, pictures of things we are doing in class. Please check the blog frequently or subscribe to follow our blog. Updates will be emailed. We are going to have a great year this year. I am adapting more technology into my curriculum and am very excited to share it with my brand new class along with  reading and math . I am looking forward to a great school year.

All about your teacher

Hi Everyone!! I am Joanna Powell. I have been a first grade teacher at Tanglewood Elementary for 19  years. I received my Master's Degree from UNCP in 2000. In 2000,I was nominated by a coworker for The Disney Teaching Award. I have been awarded a grant for leappads from Donors Choose.  I love my job and love teaching first grade.

I am originally from Clarion, Pennsylvania. I moved here in 1997 and have been here in Lumberton ever since. I met my husband, Marvin who was stationed at Fort Bragg in 2000. He is now a SFC in the NC National Guard and works on Bragg as a Guard Technician.We were married in 2002. We have two sons. Noah is a 7th grader at Littlefield Middle School and Eli is a kindergardener at Tanglewood.

We live on Walnut street and are enjoying our sons as they grow. We are active members of Vertical Church.
